This area was one of the highlights, both positively and negatively, of Mother 3 for me. It features the trippy sequence where Lucas sees his worries, Boney the dog acts smarter than the average party member, and the boss culminates with a very difficult fight. I spent almost an hour grinding near the top of the mountain trying to get more PSI powers for my team since I just couldn't beat The Barrier Trio.

Someone commented on another Touhou video that there are no bad Touhou songs. Too true! The composer, ZUN, said this was specifically designed as a "final fight" song. You can read more of the composer's thoughts on the Touhou wiki if you look up "Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Music" on there. Some of them are...questionable, but I suppose that's a cultural difference. This is probably the longest gap between the first and second upload from a game on the channel.

Interesting pick! For a staff roll on a baseball game, this track is pretty dark. Feels more like it would be in a Metroid title.

This is one of Eveline Novakovic's best songs. She's the composer for most of Donkey Kong Country 3 and the voice of Joanna Dark if you didn't know. This game is pretty good for a baseball title. You only hear this song for about a minute, so I had to artificially extend it. Seeing that Ken Griffey, Jr. received so many games, I'm surprised there weren't more titles in the '90s and '00s that featured other athletes like Shaq and Michael Jordan. Watching Space Jam and Kenan & Kel as a young kid influenced my early tastes in sports, so I probably would have bought them.

This game doesn't have much info about it online, so I linked someone's experience with it in the description. It looks like it's a mix between Secret of Mana (in that you can play with multiple people controlling the party members) and A Link to the Past in terms of gameplay loop. It seems like the common complaints are from constantly fiddling around in the menus to change your character's stats and the difficulty in trying to use each character effectively. I wonder if it ever received a translation, official or otherwise.

1:30 for the Generation 6 version! Credits to dewdneym on Newgrounds for the picture of Sootopolis City. Generation 3 has some of the coolest designs for the cities. Sootopolis City is reached by diving under the ocean and emerging within a dormant volcanic cone. In Emerald, the gym leader Wallace is replaced by Juan since Wallace is moved to champion status. I always thought that was weird since the two leaders use practically the same teams. It would have made more sense, at least in Generation 3, for the new champion to be one of your rivals like Brendan, May, or Wally. At the very least, the gym puzzle is cool!

There is (was?) this game store in Tallahassee, FL called Games For Less. Back when I was hunting for N64 game cartridges, I found Daikatana there. The store owner asked if I wanted anything else while I was at the register, and I saw this game out of the corner of my eye. It was very cheap, so I pointed at Lode Runner 3-D. He replied in the thickest Southern drawl I have ever heard, "Looooooode RRRRRRRRRRunner? Thank ya!" I don't remember anything about this game, but I do remember the ridiculous way that man rolled his Rs.

I grabbed the image from GameStop's website surprisingly enough. This past week, Game Informer was shut down, a magazine usually given away for free if you were a paid GameStop member. I don't have any nostalgia for that magazine in particular, but I do for several other gaming news companies. It's sad to see all the video game news organizations go under, but Kotaku somehow still survives. I used to get all of my gaming updates from Nintendo Power, Tricks 'N' Tips, and anything that caught my eye on the store rack when I was 8-9. I still have a small collection on my bookshelf, but it's been ages since I have last read any of them.

It's been a while since I've thought about this game, but I saw the sequel for sale in a store the other day. I've always wondered if it was worth it, but the reviews I read in the past seemed very harsh on it. Maybe one day I'll give PvZ2 a try if it's cheap enough. The last time I played the DS version of the game back in 2020, I was hooked!

What a disappointing game. I said that in the previous upload, too. This is a rearrangment of the Jinjo Village theme from Banjo-Tooie. It's been interesting reading the developer's comments on this game over the past several years. The fact that Banjo-Threeie was never a serious consideration is sad. Rare could see that 3D platformers were trending downwards in popularity, and in 2024, I sadly think they are right. While some of the indies have been picking where the mid-2000s left off, the AAA industry has mostly left this genre to rot. How disappointing. Anyway, at least this game has a nice orchestrated soundtrack. It would have been nice if there were more new songs and genuine character interactions. Maybe then, it would have felt like a true Banjo game...

It just doesn't capture me, and it's not really the games fault. But every time I start it up again I sigh and put it down again! I'm having great fun with the 365 free puzzles though. So it was still worth the money so far!

This is one of the most hated games I have ever seen from a franchise. Even Level-5 seems to have distanced themselves from it outside of Japan. When I played it a couple years ago, I didn't think it was that bad. It's a shame the story ended on a massive cliffhanger, but at least there is a conclusion of sorts in the anime. You just have to watch all 50 episodes to understand the deep lore 😮‍💨. Anyway, this song originally comes from Unwound Future, but I really like this rendition. You hear this tune constantly throughout Katrielle's game, so it might as well be the main overworld theme.

More music from the Layton composer, Tomohito Nishiura. He hasn't been active since 2022, but I'm guessing he's working on the upcoming "New World of Steam." In America, this is called Dark Cloud 2, but everywhere else, it's known as Dark Chronicle, likely because the first and second game are only loosely connected to each other. There wasn't a third game, but supposedly Rogue Galaxy was originally supposed to be Dark Cloud 3. The reviews for this game make it seem like a hidden gem, and I have literally never heard of it before. I wonder if Level-5 will ever release a compilation of their older titles.

As far as nostalgia goes, I'd have to say this one of the most "painful"/bittersweet songs in existence for me. Most N64 songs I'm able to at least let it soak in, but for some reason this song brings the most existential weight to my chest than any other childhood tune. Still love it, but damn does it hit like a train...

Continued from the A video, Future Redeemed is full of excellent tidbits for anyone who has played all 3 games. If you have only played 3, I don't think some of the impacts of the story from chapter 3 onwards (there are 5 chapters total) will be effective for you. I was thinking the whole time I was racing up the Black Mountains, the final area in the game, that I wish this had been the climax in the original game instead. It's a bit sad that this didn't come out physically like Torna the Golden Country did, but 3's Expansion Pass is lighter on content compared to 2's, so Nintendo likely thought it would not sell as well. Anyway, I loved Future Redeemed and cannot wait to see what new storyline Monolith cooks up for their followup on the next Nintendo console!

I just finished Future Redeemed this past weekend. It took me about 17 hours to finish the story and another 13 after that to complete it fully. It's a great addition to Xenoblade 3's story as well as a nice finisher to the trilogy's overarching plot. I highly recommend purchasing it if you were on the fence about the price. This might be blasphemous, but as far as gameplay goes, I enjoyed Future Redeemed's style more than the original game's. Everything just felt so streamlined, and there was no Community roadblock like there was in Torna's DLC. My thoughts are continued in the B video! Thanks to @Kobob_KC for this version of the soundtrack. I was going to arrange my own upload in a similar way, so it's nice to see that someone else had the same idea!

I was still working a short time before COVID hit, and I got furloughed about a month after the near total shudown. I remember waking up early and playing this game for about 30 minutes trying to catch the early morning bugs before 8 AM wiped them until 11 PM. I can still hear the clip clop of my shoes on the sidewalk I created all over the southeastern corner of my town trying to find those darn beetles on the trees. To date, this is probably the closest I have come to 100%ing any of the Animal Crossing titles: I only have about a dozen paintings left to donate to the museum.

Time for another beginning! After the normal credits from the original Ocarina of Time, the 3DS remake adds another short credits sequence to commemorate Grezzo and other assistants. They added this beautiful orchestrated theme to spice it. It's likely because by this point, the player has been sitting watching cutscenes for over 10 minutes straight. Even after all the amazing Zelda games that have come after the original Ocarina of Time, this is still my favorite in the series. I wonder if it will have ever a second remake, so that people on consoles can try this masterpiece with updated features and proper Iron Boots!

Rosenkreuzstilette (Stiletto of the Red Cross) is a self-published game modeled after the Mega Man X series, except with younger women in place for the bosses. It received a sequel about 7 years ago with some good music, so I have to take a closer look at that one day. Obviously, I have never played it, but I think it's available on Steam. While looking for information on the game, I found someone's VGM blog from several years ago. I've always considered making my own similar type of webpage in case my channel ever got taken down by UA-cam, but I haven't started just yet. Maybe one day... Anyway, I linked it at the top of the description if you want to see an example entry. *reupload due to scandalous images. This is one of the few times I actually deleted a video of my own volition.

I found this game sealed with its CD along with a few other 3DS Atlus limited edition titles at a flea market back in 2018. I remember asking the owner's wife of the stall to take them out of the glass case, so I could inspect them. When we both saw the prices, she told me the amounts weren't right, but that I could buy them for those listed prices since the games had sat there for a while. How much were they? $17 each! I went back to that stall again after the pandemic, but the neighboring stalls told me the owners got sick, shut down their store, and donated their gaming collection to local stores and Goodwill. It's a sad ending, but I'll always remember their kindness and that absurdly good deal.

Funny thing... I first heard this theme through one player's playthrough of 'Broadcast Satellite (BS) Legend of Zelda'...

After receiving numerous comments about the different versions of this song, the second theme is finally uploaded. In Danganronpa, the investigation theme usually has two different arrangements, but in Rain Code, it's one of the discussion themes that you usually have with your partner(s) for the current chapter. Odd choice, but you hear the song just as often, plus it's very catchy! In the most recent Nintendo Direct, there was a new game revealed by Kodaka (the director), Uchikoshi (presumably one of the writers), artist Rui Komatsuzaki, and the composer Masafumi Takada called The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. I'm a little worried that the sales or lack thereof might bankrupt those creators, but I'm willing to give a Tactical RPG a try if it's being made by that team!

While I enjoy the previous 2 uploads from this game, Simon's Theme and Dracula's Battle, a lot, this is my favorite song the game. It's just so relaxing and peaceful. Some of the later stages in this game are very stressful, especially if you've never played Castlevania before or don't have the manual. I kept going back to this song in my head since this is one of the easiest stages in Super Castlevania IV. Some of the instruments used in this song were common in SNES RPG town themes, so maybe that's another reason why it sounds tranquil. *reupload because the original was so quiet.

Time for a few bonus videos/reuploads. I've been playing the Apollo Justice Trilogy, and I'm almost done (halfway through case 5 out of 6). My feelings towards Dual Destinies are complicated, but Spirit of Justice is still great. I think most of the writing issues stem from the fact that there was clearly no plan with Apollo Justice's character over the course of his 3 games as well as the fact that this game is built off of Dual Destinies' engine (i.e. very sloowwww text scrolling speed). While I still like Athena, I haven't been able to get that idea out of my head that I saw online that she should have been a psychologist working for the Wright Anything Office first before slowly becoming an attorney over the course of the game(s). She doesn't even get to "save" her friend/family like she wanted to: Phoenix has to do it for her. Rewriting her role in the office would make her transition to attorney more interesting and give a reason for AA7 to exist. Plus, maybe I'm a little sad that Trucy's role is practically nonexistent outside of a few chapters. Imagine Trucy becoming the next attorney instead: that would have been surprising!

I also didn't play any of the Mega Man games until the Wii Virtual Console, but after playing Mega Man 2 on that I ended up getting the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the GameCube, which had 1-8. Such an underrated compilation and way more generous than the Legacy Collections!

It’s Mega Man’s turn in the spotlight this time! Even though this series was popular throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, I didn’t try any until I was in college in the early 2010s. I remember going to a retro game shop in Stuart, Florida and asking for a couple Mega Man games and NES console. Unfortunately, I never ended up using it since it was so finicky to get the games to start working (I blew on them REALLY hard), so I returned it and got Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Super Mario RPG, Goldeneye, and Battletoads on SNES. Those were all games I missed in my childhood. Since I couldn’t play Mega Man on original console, I turned to the Wii’s Virtual console. I had to do that anyway since there was no other way to play Mega Man 9, but I started with 2 then 3 before playing 9. Once I was hooked, I went back and played 1 and 4 before 10 came out. Shortly thereafter, 5 was released, but 6 never came out on the Wii. To this day, I still haven’t played 6, 7, or 8 as well as the numerous spinoff titles. My college roommate encouraged me to try Mega Man X, but I didn’t understand the controls since he started having me playing in the last stages of the game. I ended up just watching him struggle through the final boss. One day, I’ll try X again! I have a lot of good memories playing this series. The pace of VGM uploads related to Mega Man on this channel has slowed down a lot since I haven’t played any its titles since 2018, but I’m sure I will marathon them all again one day, including playing the missing games. Here is my overall ranking (only counting the ones I played): 10>3>9>2>4>1>5>11. If I were to rank the best soundtracks, I really love 9 and 2’s catchy stage themes. 3’s opening and ending themes always get me nostalgic. Even the first game reminds me of my college ex-girlfriend studying for exams while I got frustrated with Ice Man’s stage. Poor Mega Man 11. I thought it was a decent effort, but I barely remember anything about that game. Oh well. Thanks for following me to VGM 1200. Look forward to the next centennial celebration!

Route 203 is genuinely a masterpiece. I remember playing platinum for the first time and thinking wow this theme is ass. But grinding my pokemon here( i used to love over leveling) it grew on me a lot and now its one of my favourite themes

I'm currently playing Sword and having a total blast! There's so much Quality of life changes made that make this so much fun. And this is the first game since stadium I'm playing on my TV which just has an added layer of fun somehow! I'll wait awhile before diving into Scarlet and Violet. It's so weird what a mess that game is considering the money behind this franchise! My friends were complaining and taking pictures the whole time playing it!

I bookended the 1100s with both of the best Area Zero themes. The plot twist that occurs at the bottom of the chasm is quite thrilling, so I won't spoil it here. The final battle is actually a decent challenge if you went in completely blind. It's too bad the two games are still plagued with technical issues. I'm guessing Generation 10 will be a celebration of all the previous generations (maybe with all of the previous gimmicks mixed together, like Z-moves and Mega Evolution), so Gamefreak and Co. better straighten themselves up with the frame rate issues and the like. I haven't felt a Pokemon game was well-made since the original Sun and Moon, excluding the excellent Legends Arceus, of course. Next video, it's time for a celebratory VGM for another classic series to mark 1200. My schedule has been super busy this month, but I hope to have it done sooner rather than later.

Gdleen is purported to be the first RPG on the Super Famicom and was never released officially outside of Japan. I linked a well-written history and overview of the franchise from Reddit at the top of the description if you want more details. This series started as a light novel which then received an anime and then a game. Out of all of that, only one OVA (original video animation) was ever translated, and it wasn't well-received. It makes me wonder just how many hidden gems are hiding in Japan...
